Tan Dun’s Passacaglia is designed to be an interactive effort between the orchestra and the audience by using cell phones to play recorded sounds of bird calls on ancient Chinese instruments during the piece. Maestro Jaffe invites you to participate in the symphony using your cellphone.

Before coming to the concert, please do the following:

1. Open Camera or QR code reader app on your phone (a QR reader app can be downloaded from the Apple or Google Play store)

3. Before the piece begins on concert night, set your phone on Airplane mode to avoid interference from incoming text messages or calls during the concert

4. Turn up the volume on your device

5. Wait for Maestro’s cue, then PLAY the melody and ENJOY this unique interaction with the Maestro and orchestra
