Mike Isom has appeared as a regular substitute with the Folsom Lake Symphony since 2011, and became a regular member of the orchestra in 2019. Initially a trumpet player, Mike transitioned to the trombone as a high school senior. He a$ended California State University, Chico, where he earned a B.A. in Geography and Planning. Though not a music major, he was fortunate to have the opportunity to study trombone under Dr. Lloyd Roby. While at Chico, Mike went on to specialize on the bass trombone, playing in various bands, symphony orchestras, pit orchestras, big bands, and small ensembles. He appeared onstage with artists including Pancho Sanchez, Steve Turre, Harvey Phillips, Charlie Davis, Michael Mulcahy, Patrick Sheridan, and Maynard Ferguson.Mike is the bass trombonist for the Sierra Nevada Winds Orchestra, a group he has played with since 2008. He is regularly in demand as an on-call substitute for Sacramento-region bands and orchestras, and has made appearances with the Auburn and Camellia Symphony Orchestras,Sacramento Symphonic Winds, and other groups.Mike is currently the Development Services Director for the City of Roseville, where he lives with his wife Trisha and daughter Emily.
