Celebrate the spirit and sound of America with American Salute, presented by the Folsom Lake Symphony. As the nation approaches its historic 250th anniversary, this inspiring program brings together some of the most iconic and beloved works in American music.
The concert opens with the vibrant rhythms and colorful orchestration of George Gershwin’s Cuban Overture, followed by his dazzling Variations on “I Got Rhythm”, featuring acclaimed pianist Natsuki Fukasawa. Leonard Bernstein’s sparkling Overture to Candide adds wit and brilliance to the program.
A centerpiece of the concert is Aaron Copland’s powerful Lincoln Portrait, narrated by baritone Ralph Cato. Combining stirring music with the timeless words of Abraham Lincoln, this moving work captures the ideals and resilience that have shaped the American story.
Rounding out the program are audience favorites from stage and screen, featuring music by John Williams, Rodgers and Hammerstein, Stephen Schwartz and more. With its blend of orchestral classics, Broadway melodies, and cinematic themes, American Salute offers a joyful and uplifting musical celebration for audiences of all ages.

Esteemed for his warm, rich voice, Ralph Cato travels the world telling stories through song. Whether performing oratorio, opera, or show tunes, his performances are consistently memorable. He has performed with numerous orchestras and has been recognized for his roles in operas such as Amonasro in Aida, Scarpia in Tosca, Tonio in Pagliacci, and Germont in La Traviata. A testament to his versatility. Mr. Cato was featured in the Folsom Lake Symphony’s “Hollywood Hits” program in 2016 and returned in 2024 for a celebrated performance of Carmina Burana.
Natsuki Fukasawa, piano
Steinway Artist Natsuki Fukasawa is an internationally acclaimed pianist who has performed throughout the United States, Europe, Scandinavia, Israel, Australia, Brazil, Japan, and China. She has appeared at major venues including Carnegie Hall, John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and Tivoli Concert Hall. Praised by Strad and Fanfare Magazine, she is a recipient of the Danish Music Award for Best Chamber Music Recording of the Year. A Fulbright Scholar, Dr. Fukasawa holds degrees from The Juilliard School and the University of Maryland and serves on the faculties of American River College and the University of the Pacific Conservatory of Music.
