Classical music lovers are invited to an intimate evening of extraordinary violin playing when internationally acclaimed violinist Joshua Brown takes the stage Friday, October 9, for a special reception featuring an evening of solo violin masterworks.
Brown has quickly established himself as one of the most exciting young violinists on the international stage. His artistry has been praised for its “richness of sound, elegance of reading, and commitment of every moment at the service of the work,” according to La Libre. His international profile rose significantly following the 2024 Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels, where he earned Second Prize as well as both Audience Awards. In 2025, Brown was awarded an Avery Fisher Career Grant and the CAG Louis and Susan Meisel Prize, further recognizing his exceptional talent and promise.
A Program of Violin Masterworks
For this special performance, Brown will present a demanding and deeply expressive program showcasing the remarkable range of the solo violin:
- J.S. Bach — E Major Preludio
- T. Perkinson — Louisiana Blues Strut
- J.S. Bach — Chaconne
- E. Ysaÿe — Violin Sonata No. 3, “Ballade”

The program moves from the intricate architecture and spiritual depth of Bach to the distinctive rhythmic character of contemporary American composer T. Perkinson, before culminating in the virtuosic intensity of Ysaÿe’s Ballade. At the center of the evening is Bach’s monumental Chaconne, one of the great landmarks of the violin repertoire.
